Association

The Soloists’ Association of 1921 is the professional association of classical soloists in vocal and instrumental music.

The purpose of the Association is to safeguard the artistic, social and economic interests of its members and to provide expert legal assistance to members in matters of law and to assist in the resolution of contractual, fiscal and other relevant legal issues.

In addition, the association sees it as a main task to support classical music life in the broadest sense, including providing support for chamber music associations, festivals, etc., support for the publication of CD productions, and with study and travel grants to help young musicians further their education.

The association currently has around 725 members, who perform solo and chamber music at a high artistic level.
The members cover the following categories and can be found on the association’s website by name or category: voice, piano, organ, harpsichord, harp, guitar, accordion, violin, viola da gamba, cello, double bass, recorder, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, saxophone, percussion, conducting and declamation.

Solistforeningen was founded in 1921 on the initiative of the conductor Frederik Schnedler-Pedersen. The first chairman of the society was royal chamber singer Ellen Bech.
The post of chairman has since been held by the pianist Victor Schiøler, the cellist Asger Lund Christiansen and the violinist Peder Elbæk.
The current chairman is the flautist Toke Lund Christiansen.
Solistforeningen represents the copyright interests of its members in all relevant bodies.

Solistforeningen and Dansk Musikerforbund have signed an agreement with Danmarks Radio. Last negotiated in 2016. The association is directly or indirectly represented in the Fællesrådet for udøvende kunstnere, the Copy-Dan associations, Samrådet for ophavsret, Dansk Kunstnerråd, Gramex and Performex.

The association manages the use of its share of the collective rights funds from Gramex and the Copy-Dan associations, Båndkopi and AVU funds. The Association participates as a member of Performex in the distribution of cable and TV funds to its members.
